Marine Archaeology in Akko, Israel:
OceanGate Foundation participated in archaeological work in the ancient port of Akko on the north coast of Israel in June of 2013. We supported the ongoing investigation of the site to further the work of Dr. Bridget Buxton of the University of Rhode Island, and the Israeli Antiquity Authority. The IAA, Dr. Buxton, three of her students, a supporter of OceanGate Foundation named Steve Phelps, and the foundation’s Chair, Craig Howard, all made up a team to dig deep (and under water) in this port with an extraordinary past.
The findings painted a vivid picture of a site occupied for over 5,000 years by many different tribes, societies, and nation – a picture rarely seen elsewhere.
